California Marriage License Information
for Prospective Brides and Grooms

How to apply for a marriage license:

  • Both bride and groom (18yrs.+) must appear
  • Photo ID with proof of age
  • Fee is $50

Divorce decree if it has been within the last 90 days:

  • (No blood test required)
  • The license is valid immediately and may be used for 90 days, anywhere in the state of California.

  • South Bay - 314 F St., Suite 200, Chula Vista
  • East County - 198 W. Main St., Suite 101, El Cajon
  • Kearny Mesa - 9225 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, (619) 237-0502

    Note: All San Diego locations are open Mon-Fri 8-5.
    Kearny Mesa is also open Sat. 9-3.

  • Nevada County
  • Placer County

Short on money?

  • You can have a civil ceremony at any of the above sites. The county will provide witnesses.  The fee is $50.

  • You can download a marriage license application for San Diego County at: www.co.san-diego.ca.us (From their Table of Contents choose County Departments. From the Alphabetical List, click on Assessor/Recorder/Clerk)
