Which Officiant or Minister Should I Use?

In these days of 'send $5.00 and get a ministerial license', the market is flooded with instant ministers, many of whom perform wedding and other types of ceremonies. If you have done part of the wedding planning already, you have probably become aware that it is going to take more work than you thought and it is going to cost way more than you imagined. In fact, the average wedding costs approximately $20,000! Your officiant or minister is a big part of whether your day will go-smoothly or not. Choose carefully but know what you are looking for before you make the choice.

  • Does this person present himself/herself as a professional?

  • Do you feel calm in their presence? (Your wedding day can be nerve-wracking and stressful. You want someone who can keep you centered and calm.)

  • Is this person interested in you or do they just want to tell you everything they have done?

  • Is this person available (very important) for you to ask questions as they come up? In other words, do the answer their phone and return your calls.

  • Can this officiant refer you to musicians, caterers, photographers, etc?

  • If you have not chosen a location, is this officiant aware of the best locations for your ceremony?

  • Can this man or woman meet your specific needs, i.e., bi-lingual, considerate nd knowledgeable about addressing parents of different faiths?
